Undercity: The Forsaken Shadows of Lordaeron

Written by Terinax3

Undercity, nestled beneath the ruins of the fallen capital of Lordaeron, is a dark, sprawling city and the capital of the Forsaken. Once a majestic human city, it was laid to waste during the rise of the Scourge. After the fall of the Lich King, Sylvanas Windrunner, the former ranger-general of Quel'Thalas and now the Banshee Queen, reclaimed the city for her Forsaken. The ruins of Lordaeron above ground still serve as a reminder of the kingdom's tragic history.

The layout of Undercity mirrors that of a necropolis, with winding corridors and plague-infested waterways. The city's architecture is gothic and twisted, with towering spires and eerie green lighting from bubbling cauldrons of alchemical experiments. It is a city of death, reflecting the dark nature of its inhabitants. Despite its ominous surroundings, Undercity is a place where the Forsaken continue their existence, free from the will of the Lich King, though their desires remain shrouded in mystery.

Capital of Forsaken

Under the rule of Sylvanas, Undercity became a strategic hub for the Forsaken’s war efforts against the Alliance. From here, they launched their campaigns across the Eastern Kingdoms, using deadly plagues and alchemical warfare. The Forsaken’s approach to warfare is often brutal and merciless, reflecting their cold detachment from the living. Undercity's hidden laboratories and poison-filled chambers make it a place of death and experimentation.

Undercity’s significance was greatly impacted by the events of the Battle for Lordaeron during the "Battle for Azeroth" expansion. The city was besieged by the Alliance forces, and in a desperate move, Sylvanas unleashed the Blight, a deadly plague, to destroy the city, preventing the Alliance from reclaiming it. As a result, Undercity was rendered uninhabitable, leaving the Forsaken without a capital, their fate uncertain.

Even though the city itself may be lost, Undercity remains a symbol of the Forsaken's dark and tragic existence. It reflects their defiance in the face of fate, their embrace of the shadows, and their unending quest for survival, even in a world that fears and rejects them.
